# How to use Deep Agents with Subconscious

> To use Deep Agents with Subconscious, create a `ChatOpenAI` model with `base_url="https://api.subconscious.dev/v1"` and `model="subconscious/glm-5.3-marathon"`, and pass it to `create_deep_agent(model=...)`. Planning, subagents and file tools then all run on Subconscious, which is built for long agent runs.

## Set up Deep Agents

### 1. Install Deep Agents

Install the framework and its OpenAI-compatible client.

pip install -U deepagents langchain-openai
```

### 2. Create a Subconscious API key

Sign in at https://platform.subconscious.dev, create an API key, and export it so the tool can read it.

```

### 3. Point it at Subconscious

deepagents does not install langchain-openai for you. Always pass a model: the default falls back to an Anthropic model. use_responses_api=False keeps ChatOpenAI on Chat Completions, which is the OpenAI format Subconscious serves.
