## Overview

Amazon Bedrock is AWS's managed model service and has become the default AI control plane for many enterprises. One API reaches 100+ models from 18+ providers, including Anthropic's Claude family up to Fable 5.1, Meta, Mistral, DeepSeek, Amazon's own Nova models, and, since a June 2026 launch under an expanded partnership, OpenAI models including the full GPT-6 family from Astra to Luna. Switching models is usually just a new model ID. Every call inherits IAM, PrivateLink, KMS encryption and CloudTrail logging, and provider models never train on customer data.

Around inference sit managed extras: Knowledge Bases for RAG, Guardrails for safety filtering and PII redaction, fine-tuning, and Custom Model Import for open-weight checkpoints. AgentCore, generally available in 2026, adds a serverless agent runtime with session isolation, memory, an MCP gateway, sandboxed code and browser tools, observability and Cedar-based policies that sit outside the model. Billing comes in three modes: on-demand per token, batch at 50% off, and provisioned throughput at 20 to 40% off with a one or six month commitment.
