Amazon Bedrock vs Inception: key differences

Bedrock reaches Claude, GPT-6 Astra, Nova, DeepSeek and more through one API, with IAM, PrivateLink, KMS and CloudTrail on every call, plus Guardrails, Knowledge Bases, fine-tuning and the AgentCore agent runtime. Third-party analyses put most models 20 to 35% above direct prices. Inception's Mercury 2.5 is a closed reasoning model with 260K context, tool use and JSON mode at $0.20 in and $0.75 out per million. Inception reports over 1,100 tokens per second, and Artificial Analysis measured about 640.

This is less either-or than it looks. Teams already on AWS can call Mercury through Bedrock and keep their security posture, with Claude for harder steps. Inception's own API carries its full lineup, including Mercury Voice and Mercury Router, plus fine-tuning and private deployments on request. Pick Bedrock for breadth and governance, and Inception direct for its full lineup.

What Amazon Bedrock and Inception do

Amazon Bedrock

Amazon Bedrock is AWS's managed model service and has become the default AI control plane for many enterprises. One API reaches 100+ models from 18+ providers, including Anthropic's Claude family up to Fable 5.1, Meta, Mistral, DeepSeek, Amazon's own Nova models, and, since a June 2026 launch under an expanded partnership, OpenAI models including the full GPT-6 family from Astra to Luna. Switching models is usually just a new model ID. Every call inherits IAM, PrivateLink, KMS encryption and CloudTrail logging, and provider models never train on customer data.

Example models: Claude Fable 5.1, GPT-6 Astra

Inception

Inception builds diffusion large language models (dLLMs). Every other LLM on this list generates text one token at a time; Inception's Mercury models start from a rough draft of a whole block and refine it over a few passes, producing many tokens in parallel. That ties speed less to output length and lets the models run fast on ordinary NVIDIA GPUs rather than custom chips. The company was founded by professors from Stanford, UCLA and Cornell behind core work on diffusion, Flash Attention and DPO, and is led by Stanford's Stefano Ermon. It raised a $50M seed in November 2025 led by Menlo Ventures, with Mayfield, M12, NVentures, Snowflake and Databricks, plus Andrew Ng and Andrej Karpathy as angels.

Example models: Mercury 2.5, Mercury 2
