Cohere vs StreamLake: key differences
StreamLake's headline is KAT-Coder-Pro V2.5, a proprietary coding model that StreamLake says was trained with large-scale agentic reinforcement learning for repository-level work: reading issues, editing across files and fixing its own errors over long runs. Developers pay per token or buy a KwaiKAT Coding Plan, and a Claude-protocol proxy drops it into Claude Code or OpenClaw. Cohere's coding entry is North Mini Code, a 30B Apache 2.0 model, and Command A+ trails the latest open leaders on agentic coding. For a low-cost coding agent subscription, StreamLake is the more targeted offer.
For most other enterprise work, Cohere is broader and easier to buy in the West. It serves Command A at $2.50 in and $10 out with 256K context, Embed 4 and Rerank 4 for retrieval, Aya for multilingual work and Transcribe for speech, on its API, Bedrock, Azure and OCI, or inside a customer VPC or on-prem with fine-tuning. StreamLake's pricing and much of its documentation lead with China and yuan, and China data residency rules it out for many US and EU buyers. It does offer bare-metal compute, which Cohere does not. Chinese internet businesses fit StreamLake; regulated Western enterprises fit Cohere.
What Cohere and StreamLake do
Cohere
Cohere is a Toronto-based lab that sells models and platforms to banks, governments and large enterprises rather than consumers. Its generative line is the Command family. Command A+, released May 20, 2026, is a 218B-parameter mixture-of-experts model with 25B active, published under Apache 2.0 with a 128K context window, and it combines reasoning, vision, translation and tool use in one set of weights. Command A has a 256K window and lists at $2.50 in and $10 out per million tokens, while Command R7B costs $0.0375 in. June 2026 added North Mini Code, a 30B Apache 2.0 coding model, and the lineup also includes Aya multilingual models and Transcribe for speech.
