Mistral AI vs Boundless: key differences

Mistral's lineup runs from Small 4 at $0.15 in and $0.60 out per million tokens to Medium 3.5 at $1.50 in and $7.50 out, mostly at 256K context, with Large 4 in preview at 1M. It offers EU and US regional endpoints, a Priority Tier with uptime SLAs, Batch at half price and listings on Azure, Bedrock, Vertex AI, Snowflake and watsonx. Custom training goes through Forge. Boundless serves open models such as DeepSeek V4 Flash at $0.04 in and $0.21 out, GLM-5.3 at $1.12 in and $3.52 out and Kimi K3 at $2.30 in and $11.40 out, and resells GPT and Claude. Requests run in the US or Europe with zero data retention, and there is no fine-tuning.

Mistral is the pick for teams that want one lab's weights across its API, cloud marketplaces and their own GPUs, or custom training through Forge. Boundless fits teams that want 1M context across most of a mixed catalog, or a reserved deployment that its engineers tune against latency and uptime targets in the contract. Both can keep processing in Europe.

What Mistral AI and Boundless do

Mistral AI

Mistral AI is a Paris lab that sells its models through La Plateforme, its own API, and releases most of them as open weights. It consolidated the lineup in 2026. Mistral Medium 3.5, released April 28, is a dense 128B model that merges instruction following, reasoning and coding into one set of weights, and it replaced both Devstral 2 and the Magistral reasoning models. It costs $1.50 in and $7.50 out per million tokens and scores 77.6% on SWE-Bench Verified by Mistral's count. Mistral Small 4, a 119B mixture-of-experts model with 6.5B active, costs $0.15 in and $0.60 out. Mistral Large 3, a 675B MoE under Apache 2.0, runs $0.50 in and $1.50 out. All three carry a 256K context window. Mistral Large 4, a 1.05T multimodal MoE with 52B active, entered public preview on October 6, 2026 with a 1M context at $1.36 in and $4.18 out. Its weights are due at the end of October.

Boundless

Boundless launched in September 2026 as an inference partner for AI-native startups. It sells two things. The Model API serves pre-tuned models on shared capacity, billed per token from prepaid credits with a budget per API key. Tailored inference reserves capacity for one customer, and Boundless engineers pick the model on the customer’s own evals, tune precision, batching, caching, speculative decoding and parallelism, then run the deployment against uptime, throughput and latency targets written into the contract. A free two-week evaluation tests those targets on real traffic against the customer’s current provider first.

Example models: GLM-5.3, DeepSeek V4.1 Flash, Kimi K3
